The recent annual JAFAs (JCSP Libraries Academy Film Awards) at the Lighthouse Cinema was a wonderful celebration of creativity, storytelling, and film-making talent, bringing together students from across six schools. The event showcased an impressive variety of films, including comedy, drama, animation, and action, highlighting the imagination, dedication, and hard work of young filmmakers.
For many students, seeing their films screened on the big screen was an unforgettable experience. The quality of the productions was exceptionally high, making the judges’ task of selecting winners a challenging one.
And the winners were….
Coolock C.C. enjoyed a successful event, taking home the award for Best Acting for Dementia Man. Their comedy Birthday Party received a special mention, while Not A Car Robbery was also recognised for its entertainment value.
Students from CBS James’s Street demonstrated a strong talent for comedy and action, winning Best Comedy for Slow Walkers and Best Fight Scene for School Fight. Both films proved to be audience favourites on the day.
St Killian’s C.S. had an outstanding day, winning Best Soundtrack/Sound Effects for Library Madness and earning the prestigious Most Creative School Award, recognising the originality and quality of their overall body of work. Their films Broken Door Handle and The Spicebag also received special mentions for their comedic appeal.
In the animation categories, Killinarden C.S. won Best Digital Animation for One Cent, while Kylemore College claimed Best Stop Motion Animation with the imaginative A Ballyfermot Fairytale.
The award for Best Cinematography went to Foile A Deux from Coláiste Eoin, Finglas, which impressed the judges with its visual storytelling and technical excellence.
The coveted Best Film award was presented to Dig My Grave from Killinarden C.S. The judges praised the production for its compelling storytelling and excellent execution. Killinarden C.S. also won Best Death Scene for Sorry I’m Late and received a special mention for exceptional animation with BFJI Movie Awards JAFA.
The day was a fantastic celebration of student achievement, creativity, and collaboration. Every school involved should be immensely proud of the work they produced, and the audience was treated to an inspiring showcase of emerging filmmaking talent.
